So much of what we think about the world around us is shaped by the voices to which we listen. I wish I could say I can read just about anything without the stain or smudge of it’s message being left on my spirit, but I can’t and we have to be so careful about the things we let in.
Proverbs 4:23 Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.
So, here are my final Friday favorites…my right now favorite blogs and books…
Ann Voskamp changed the way I think about everything when I read her book One Thousand Gifts. Absolutely one of my favorites! She also has a blog that is a daily habit of my morning called A Holy Experience.
I’m not even sure how I stumbled upon Emily P Freeman‘s blog “Chatting at the Sky“, but it struck a deep chord in my heart when she made a comment about being allergic to shallow conversations. I didn’t even know that was a thing…but I have it if it is. And now I’m waist deep in her new book Simply Tuesday which is also a game changer and has given me permission to let my soul breathe, escaping being held hostage by hustle.
Ever read a book and it was the perfect book at the perfect time and season? Holley Gerth‘s You Were Made for a God-sized Dream was that for me. In a season when my spirit was beaten up by loud voices telling me I wasn’t doing enough or doing it the right way, her voice told me I was ok and that God had plans for me because of who I am, not despite who I am. It really was like coffee for my heart.
Angie Smith‘s Seamless Bible study. O.M.G. she makes going through the whole Bible this inviting adventure. So.much.fun. Her book, Chasing God, is also on the top of my list to read next after Simply Tuesday.
One of my newest favorite is The Lazy Genius Collective whose tagline is “Be a genius about the things that matter and lazy about the things that don’t.” Yes. Amen. Thank you. Kendra is absolutely delightful and her posts make me nod and say “me too!” My favorite one so far is Quit Setting Stupid Goals. If you struggle with feeling like you have to do all the great things because they’re great things, check this one out. It will make you laugh and then throw away your checklist and quit tracking minutia.
Last, but not even nearly the least is a dear friend of mine, Erin Jones, who blogs about leadership and servanthood…and how those two things are knit together in such a perfect and powerful way to lead us in this journey God has us on. You’ll see how she writes so honestly and humbly on her blog Servant Rhythm.
I hope you get a chance to check some of these out if you haven’t yet. My favorite reads are the ones you can snuggle up with while of course wearing your comfiest pants. TGIF!!!
